The Thought of Love Warms Any Cold Day

Happy Birthday to my beautiful darling niece Lysa! I love you. Tsup!!!

Is love an idea or a feeling?
Listen to Pink Floyd's "Us and Them" while you contemplate on that. It is a nice soothing melody. :)
Or better yet, "The Great Gig In The Sky."

In the year 2009, a little girl from Texas embarked on a journey with her pet elephant, rooster, pig and rabbit.

She was going to bring a Christmas tree to her friend in California.

But she took a detour to Winnipeg, Canada to visit her friend Renee.

...and proceeded to go through Arizona to visit her friend Deborah.

Until she finally reached her friend in California, but her friend was not home.
And the HOA manager told her she could not bring the elephant into the compound.
So she camped out at LAX and waited for the next flight to the Philippines.

I drew this series in 2009 when my dearest friend Renee was still alive. Renee was loved by many. When she passed away from cancer, the blogging world turned dark that day. But Renee was such a bright spirit. Sometimes when I miss her, I read our "commentsation" on our blogs and I laugh so hard, I cry.

Merry Christmas to all my friends.

Hello! I hope you are all well. Today is my beautiful niece's birthday. Happy birthday dearest Lysa. (Correction: Lysa's birthday is on the 14th. It is only the 13th over there. Tita Frey is mali' pala eh!). It is very cold here today. I did not bother to check the temperature. All I know is I need to wear layers. Talking about covering, the Christmas Tree still looks naked. I tried to decorate it last night while watching an old movie on television, but I fell asleep. So there is the tree. I replaced the built-in lights with loose light strands. It has colored lights because my sister bought all the white Christmas lights at Target and Walmart. :) Well, she said she did. Haha!

Do you have a coffee table at home? We do. In fact we have a couple in the living area. One in front of the sofa and love seat and another in front of my reading chair. Yes, we have coffee table books too. There are over one hundred books on one table...I can't help it.

When my husband and I went shopping for a home, the bank told us we can buy a home two and a half times the amount of our joint annual income. Instead we cautiously bought a home one half the amount of one of our incomes, which was a good thing because of the depressed housing market, the value of our home is equivalent to the ice cream man's income. Actually, the ice cream man earns more than that. Okay, exaggeration. I digress. Our house is too small for all the books.

My favorite pictorial book is called the Spirit of The Home. The book sits on my reading chair. It inspires me to clean and organize the house. There is a photograph which I love so much and I always dream of having a home that looks like the one above. Instead, I have these:

...books on the floor, corners, under the tables; bookshelves behind chairs, behind sofas and love seats. I have given away hundreds of books, textbooks and children's books. Somehow, I don't really think I want to change these.

We can still walk around the house... :)

Naked

Our Christmas Tree is naked. I cannot figure out the lighting cords. I don't know what happened. The connecting cords are shorter and some circuits are totally out. When I touch the tree, the light turns on, so there must be a loose bulb somewhere. I love Christmas. I love Christmas Trees, Christmas carols, Christmas ornaments, Christmas colors, Christmas smells, Christmas church bells, Holy Christmas mass celebrations expecially when the choir sounds like the Gregorian monks chanting. As I write this, Manhein Steamroller is playing Christmas carols on the Bose. However, I am not crazy that I will inspect 800 lightbulbs to see which one is loose or burnt out. I promised my daughter I will buy new Christmas lights tomorrow and we will string them around the tree so we can decorate the tree.

I used to have a lot of Christmas decorations. As years passed, I started throwing away some Christmas ornaments and decorations. I resolved to only keep the ones that had sentimental value. So it only takes half a day to put up the Christmas decorations. The tree will have to wait. It looks very green right now.

Every Christmas ornament we have around the house has a story and memory. I have a lot of handmade Christmas ornaments, made by my late but most beloved Mother-in-law. I have some ornaments made by my sister-in-law. I also have ornaments hand-carved by my Father-in-law. Every year, my husband buys me a Santa Claus ornament or decoration. I don't think he knows that he does it every year. My favorite ornament is Santa Clause riding on a pig. My husband bought it one December when he was in Dallas on a business trip. I was so tickled to receive that. At that time I liked pig ornaments.

I do not put away all my Christmas ornaments. I keep some Christmas ornaments out all year and some really tiny ones in the china or the curio cabinet. Yes, we keep the Christmas spirit here year-round. I love to be reminded by many happy memories...that or I am a lazy housekeeper. I love fresh flowers but I do not buy fresh flowers unless the house is clean and organized. This December I will finally buy my first bouquet. I am exhausted. I moved furniture all weekend and cleaned up my art supplies. The front yard is littered with boxes not because I went shopping but because I threw away more things.

New Blog Announcement

I tried to oil paint this year, I failed miserably. I just work... and love those I love. Do you know how love feels? Do you know what love means? You know, I think the word LOVE was a typographical error by some dyslexic scribe who meant to write LIVE. I started an online oak encyclopedia. My sister would have loved this. It is a chance for me to plot and plan what I need to do with this burgeoning collection of nuts.

I have drawn over three hundred Art Card sized acorn/leaf set illustrations so far. I have been studying and reading about oak trees and acorns for more than three years.  Here is my working encyclopedia. It is my way of unleashing the nerd within. I have been hiding in there. Maybe it's time to share it. :) I am very excited about the Index Tab. It allows me to organize these hundreds of cards I have in my hands. Check it out. You might learn a thing or two about nuts. If you follow the blog, you will be eligible to join the monthly drawing for an original art card ATC/ACEO giveaway. After all, what am I going to do with all these nuts in my hand? Share them, I suppose. You may collect 9 and then frame them. The nuts look rather elegant when framed together and have graced the walls of many beautiful homes.
